A pool deck is a great way to get the most out of your pool area and expand your warm weather enjoyment. Choosing a deck plan that fits your pool configuation will create an area where you can sunbathe, have cookouts, and make the most of the warm weather season.
Why You Need a Pool Deck Plan
A pool deck plan contains all the data you need to know about building a deck on your own. It provides the detail step-by-step process of showing you exactly how to construct a deck. Your plan will have all the dimensions, material required and tools you'll need to have on hand to make the construction process go smoothly and easily.
Choosing the Right Pool Deck Plan
There is an incredibly large number of deck designs available online today. Before you select the type of deck you want to build you'll need to do a little homework to determine what will work best for your pool and surrounding area.
One of your first tasks will be to determine if you want a deck that will be freestanding or is connected to the house. The former stands next to the pool while the latter connects the home and the pool. Usually it will be easier to build a freestanding deck than one that is attached to the house.
If you're thinking about a standalone deck you'll then have to decide if you want a platform deck, a single side deck, or an all around deck.
The Platform Style Deck
A platform deck is simply an elevated platform that stands next to the pool. It will let you to sunbathe or just sit by the pool and enjoy the water. A single side deck is normally positioned at the end of the pool. It is larger than a platform deck and has enough space for a few tables and chairs. The all around deck totally surrounds the pool and provides access to the pool from anyplace. Since there is plenty of room on an all around deck it offers the capability of adding a grill, extra chairs, and a table with an unbrella.
Single Side Deck Designs
This is one of the most basic designs that feature a side access stairway. The steps will lead you to a main deck which has adequate room for several deck chairs, a lounge, and a few tables.
To make a single side deck more appealing you can add stairs in the center instead of at the corner. To add a little more style to your deck you can place the stairway at 45 degree angle. If the staircase is constructed in the center of the deck it divides the main deck area into two separate areas. You can place a table for two or four in one area and place some lounge chairs in the other area.
There may be occasions where a privacy screen is a nice addition to a deck area. Deck railings will enhance any deck design and the additition of a trellis for some shade will give your deck a touch of class.
All-Around Deck Designs
With an all around deck there is usually an inset staircase that leads to the main deck area. The highlight of these designs is that there is a walkway a few feet wide that creates a very nice effect.
Many deck designs also include a fence for added protection. In addition it makes the deck more aestheically appealing.
Having a screened in area such as a gazebo is a nice addition to a pool deck especially when the bugs are annoying. It provides a shady area where you can relax without being bothered by pesky insects.
