High blood pressure affects 63 million Americans, however, a great many of those people are unaware that they have it because there aren't any real symptoms. Usually the only way they discover that their blood pressure is elevated is when they go to the doctor, however, many people don't see a health provider unless they are sick and there could be months or even years between visits.

As a result a high blood pressure condition can go a long time before it's detected. Years of bad habits such as poor diet, smoking, and excessive salt intake will all contribute to high blood pressure (hypertension) over time.
Supermarkets and drugstores have blood pressure checking devices where you can check your blood pressure yourself easily and quickly. If your pressure is not within the normal range you should see your doctor or take steps to lower your blood pressure naturally.

· Stage 1 Hypertension: Stage 1 hypertension occurs when the systolic pressure ranges from 140 to 159 or a systolic pressure ranges from 90 to 99.

· Stage 2 Hypertension: This is the most severe level of hypertension where the systolic pressure is 160 or higher or the diastolic pressure is 100 or higher.
