There are a great variety of sheds designs that you can build and it is likely that you'll find one that meets your requirements. Before you settle on a certain design you'll have to decide how you are going to use your shed. There are a few things that you should take into account before you start considering all the possible designs.

One of your first steps will be to determine how your shed will be used.

Is your shed going to be used for a specific purpose or will it just be for general use? Garden sheds are popular for storing garden equipment and tools as well as other pieces of equipment such as lawn tractors and various other types of power apparatus.

The most common shed designs are those with a gable or gambrel roof and they work well for this type of use. If you're looking for something a little different you may want to take a look at a salt box design.

To make it more unusual and unique you can include special windows and ornate woodwork. These are some of the decisions you'll need to take into account as you look at various shed designs.

If you simply can't decide what shed plan will be best for you there are three resources which may offer some help.

1) Step one is to go on over to the internet where you'll find many websites that provide ideas and information about building sheds.

2) Next take a trip to your library and ask them if they have any books or magazines that have informtion about shed construction and design.

3) If there's a major book store within your reach you'll find that they will have a number of books and magazines on their shelves about sheds and shed design.

When you're considering all the various shed designs you should always be thinking about what the finished shed will look like within the context of your landscape. Wooden garden sheds are popular as they are attractive as well as functional. If your shed will be built in close proximity to your house it is even more important that it fits in well with your home's architecture as it makes more sense to have your shed nearby if you are going to be accessing it often.

The floor of your shed should be one of your primary considerations because the construction of the shed itself will depend on what kind of floor you have selected. For most sheds a plywood floor will be ample, however, heavy equipment stored in your shed will require that the plywood floor is at least 3/4 of an inch thick in order to provide the necessary support. If you plan to store anything heavier than a garden tractor you may well consider a cement or gravel floor.

An outdoor storage shed that is used for potting plants and similar activities will require lots of sunlight and ventilation. If you think that the light provided by the windows will be inadequate you may want to install skylights.

Finally you'll want to weigh all the pros and cons of the various shed desigins and make your decision based on the overall benefits. As you review some of these factors that we've discussed here you'll find a design that's right for you and will fulfill the needs that you want.
